Gzip & Deflate Compressor / Decompressor

Compress UTF-8 text or local files and decompress gzip, zlib or raw DEFLATE from Base64, Hex or files. Preview sizes and download complete bytes without uploading data.

1. Choose format and input

Data stays in browser memory: no upload, storage, URL contents or tool analytics events.

Select the container; no format guessing

Gzip, zlib and raw DEFLATE are not interchangeable. This tool does not extract ZIP or TAR; gzip containing TAR produces TAR bytes.

Formats, compatibility and limits

Requires native Compression Streams in Workers; format support varies by browser, with no server or package fallback. One gzip member only; no zlib preset dictionary. Native rejection of trailing data or checksum errors produces no partial output. Base64 requires the standard alphabet, canonical padding / pad bits and permits ASCII space, Tab, CR, LF and FF; Hex permits complete byte pairs with space, Tab, CR and LF. Text is not normalized; textareas may normalize line endings, so choose a file for exact source bytes. Output limit: 16 MiB; 5-second timeout. Limits reduce risk but cannot guarantee native decoder peak memory.

2. Results and complete export

Choose a format, paste data or load a sample, then run.

A complete Base64 / Hex encoding above 1 MiB characters disables its copy button; download binary instead. Export ignores embedded gzip filenames and never executes decompressed content.

How to use this tool

Choose the known container, select compress or decompress and supply text or a local file. Run explicitly, inspect binary byte sizes and a bounded preview, then copy a complete encoding or download all result bytes.

When not to use it

Compression is not encryption or authentication. This is not a ZIP / TAR extractor, remote HTTP tester or content-safety check. Native support and resource limits apply.
