Extract image colors
No image loaded. Choose a file or use the synthetic sample.
Static PNG, 8-bit JPEG, WebP only. Up to 20 MiB / 16 MP per image; 8192 px per side. Animation and damaged containers are rejected; native decoding can still fail. Native decoding controls orientation; WebP EXIF orientation support differs by browser. Color, transparent edges and encoding quality depend on the browser. Original metadata is not preserved. Files stay in page memory: no upload or storage.
Dominant colors and estimated shares
Load an image and extract. Fewer colors are not padded with duplicates.
Sampled to a maximum 256 px side, grouped into 5-bit RGB bins and ranked by alpha weight, using each bin's mean color. Fully transparent pixels are excluded, not treated as black. Shares use all visible samples, not just selected colors. This is a reproducible dominant-color approximation, not complete color science, WCAG contrast or brand-color identification.
How to use this tool
Load an image, choose a maximum color count and extract. Review the bounded sampling method, copy individual colors or download complete CSS variables.
When not to use it
Histogram colors are approximations, not a complete scientific palette, brand classification or WCAG contrast assessment. Fully transparent samples do not become black.
